From this music video remake i have learnt the different styles and conventions of music videos. For our video remake, we chose the song "Milkman of Human Kindness" by a majority vote. We got the style Intertextuality-Parody. So we had to think of a movie or music video to parody, but one that everyone knew. So we decided to parody Twilight, because most people have heard of it or seen it. Making the video was great and it was a lot of fun. We done all the recording in th park, because it was easy and had everything we needed. So we got our recording done in one day. We mostly took mid-shots and close-ups and we edited accoding to the credits, so the imagery would match the lyrics.
However we did have some problems with ours, because the memory card was corrupted so our clips were "messed up". But, watching all the videos together with the video that others made, it was fantastic, because everyone got different styles and different parts of the lyrics. So our first practical task was great.

Mash Up Video
We were givn a certain part from the lyrics of "The Milkman of Human Kindness" and we were also given the style "Parody". Then we had to make a fraction of a music video for those lyrics using the style of "Parody".

Music Video Beachcombing
This music video takes on two styles, narrative and impressionist. It is like a story, but it also suits the mood and the whole atmosphere of the music. In this video we can see the Michael Jackson in his mostly familiar costume, with the jack ups. The editing concentrates mostly on his famous dance moves, there is a freeze frame when Michael stands on his toes. The narrative story shows someone following Michael, the guy who is following him is dressed like a secret agent, maybe trying to catch Michael doing something bad. I like this narrative, because its like a movie, with Michael as the protagonist. The audience for this video would mostly be his fans, because it shows most of his famous dance moves, which his fans would be familiar with. Michael's dance moves show that this video is for the pop music genre, since he is called as the "king of pop" around the world. The main representations of Michael are the dance moves.
The style of this video is more performance and narrative type. I like this video, because it is funny. The editing is quite fast to suit the music. I like the narrative story line, because its not normal. Boarding a plane by the wheel, just for a air hostess. The audience for the video would be young teenagers, because the video explores what teenagers think about and go through, which makes the teenagers attracted to these types of music videos. You can tell the genre is rock, because they are jumping around playing electric guitars, they also have piercings and quite long hair. The video is funny and crazy, which also explores teenagers imaginations, which is the kind of music and videos Busted makes.
I like this style because it uses clips from the movie Transformers, so you automatically know that this song is used in the movie. The visual effects also add to the mood and the feel of the music, which makes even better. This song doesn't have much of a narrative story line, because it just uses clips from the movie, which is a story in itself. The audience for this song would firstly be the fans who like the band, then the new audience would be from the fans who like the movie. So the band are using the movie to become more recognized. The genre is rock, you can tell this because the band are still shown playing the drums and the electric guitar, which is a signature for rock.
I like the location of this video, because its mostly filmed on the beach. Its about summer and surfing and having fun. The editing is quite basic, but the camera work makes it really good. The tilted camera shots and the way the camera is meant be like a person, so he's telling us the story and whats going on. I like the narrative because its mostly about surfing and how fun it is, but its also about how he tries to get attention of an older woman, which is amusing. The audience for the video would be, people his age, because the videos about having fun. However, it would also appeal to some older teenage kids, because only they would understand the humor behind getting attention from an older woman. This video suits its genre, because it is lively, funny, it is very catchy and has a lot of vibrant colours. This video represents the artist, because its about what teenagers get up to when they're young. Which is what most of his music videos are about.
I like the location, because its about her roots, this is probably where she is from. I like the slow motion at the beginning, because it shows the flashback of what happened and sets up everything. I think the narrative story is quite good, because they made it specifically for the song, this makes the song and the video more clearer. The main audience for the video are her fans, but also people that may like this genre of music and people who like a narrative story line in a music video. The video adds to the genre of reggae/hip hop/r&b, because it is filmed in a location that suits the genre. Also the people in the background are from that kind of background, which adds more to the genre. This video represents Rihanna, by showing us where she probably grew up, but it also shows the dramatic type, suspense side, which also represents her.
I like the style of this video, because there are a lot of different locations and the editing suits the beat of the music. He meets different people, wherever he goes, this also adds a lot to the meaning of the song. I like the narrative story line because, it really adds to the feel of the song, the different locations, the different people, come together with the song. I think this video was a great idea for the music, and the fact that he travels by bike, makes it even better, because it shows that he wants to see everything and see the people properly, instead of driving in a car or something, which is too fast anyway. The video makes me feel like i'm travelling with him. The main fans of the video would be people who like travelling, but also like the kind of music that makes you feel good and happy inside. The video adds to the genre of Dance-pop and folk dance, because its uplifting. The locations are mostly country sides, which add to the folk genre, people are also dancing in the video. This video represents the artist, because it has the boy, who stars in most of Bob Sinclar's videos, he also normally does upbeat songs and vibrant videos.
I like the style of this video, because its different and funny. The editing is quite fast, to suit the beat of the music, the location is good, adds to the song. I like the narrative story line, because its cheesy, but really funny. They get a free boat ride from a cereal box, and i like how they incorporate T-Pain into the video, by letting take the free boat road aswell. The audience for this video would be people who like comedy type music videos, and obviously fans of The Lonely Island. The genre is comedy hip hop, and the video shows this genre, because of the wild things they do in the video, their singing about being on a boat and about the boat going fast. This video represents The Lonely Island a lot, because all of their music videos are about stupidly funny things like, lazy sunday, which is about going to watch a movie.

The Styles and Conventions of Music Videos
Performance, Concert and 'as live'
This is taking clips from a live concert and putting them onto a music video. Or a performance and concert type video.
The institution would properly use this style to give the audience a better feel, so that they feel as one with band. This style would make the audience more happy and excited because, the audience are in the same room as the band, they would also feel more involved.
If i was to use this style in my music video, i would have the band playing on their instruments, but maybe also have a small audience.
Narrative
This is when the music video is made to tell a story.
The institution would use this style or convention, in this case, so that they can show Michael in a different way that the audience haven't seen him, more movie like. The audience would feel very special to see Michael this way, they would feel like they are watching a movie with him as the protagonist.
If i were to use this style in my music video, the song would have to be appropriate to make into a story.
Interpretative
A video that interprets the visual directly into a story that matches the lyrics.
The institution would use this style to make the video more entertaining and funny, instead of just showing the artist performing. The audience would like this video, because its different, and because it makes the lyrics come to life.
I would use this style in my video if the lyrics were not complicated, so that we could make it come to life.
Impressionist
Imagery that matches the mood and pace of the song, but not necessarily the lyrics.
The institution might use this style to give more meaning to the music. They want the video to show what the music is really about. The audience might get more drawn in to the video, which makes them like the music even more.
If i were to use this style in my music video, i would make it simple but effective. By listening to the song well, and finding the perfect mood.
Surreal/Abstract
Videos that feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions. Things that don't make sense.
The institution might use this style to, maybe be different and to draw the audience more into the video, because the visual effects concentrates on the band and their instruments. The audience will get more interested in the video, because it also suits the music.
If i were to use this style in my video, i would make sure that the visual effects are simple. Maybe a bit of CGI.
Animation
Stop motion, digital and computer generated images.
The institution would use this style to make the song come to life, instead of having the artist just singing, which would be boring. This makes it more entertaining for the audience, so they would keep watching. The audience will listen to the lyrics more and they would like the song more in this way.
If i were to use this style in my video, i would make it funny and try not to make it boring, so that i don't lose the audience.
Intertextuality
When one media text refers to another.
The institution may use this style, to promote the movie and the song, because the video has clips from the movie. The audience will recognize that this is the song from that movie, so if they like the movie, there is more of a chance that they will also like the song.
If i were to use this style for my video, i would have to use new copyright free music. Which would make it a bit harder, because not many people will know.
